Maybe if Hollywood and the anime industry properly paid their animators and gave them more time to work out the kinks of the story’s first draft, cartoons would be made like they used to. I recently learned that a more-successful recent animated show, Arcane, actually has a tiny budget compared to most CG series, but the difference is that they gave the writers and artists much more time to properly develop the storyboards and unique art style, proving that simply throwing more money at a project is not the only solution (especially since bigger budgets = less creative-risk-taking and certainly less genuine writing that could potentially offend literally anyone in the entire world).
@effelbone Newground’s Movie Portal is easily the thing I like most about this site. Sure, YouTube is a “necessary evil” for indie animators to get noticed by the mainstream, but at least NG doesn’t make you wade through an “algorithm” that prioritizes quantity over quality—just look at the Front Page and you should find a healthy variety of surprisingly-professional indie projects on any given week.
Heck, I would argue the $3 a month I give to NG gives me better bang for my buck than whatever inflated price my parents are paying for the likes of Netflix, Disney Plus, Amazon Prime AND even cable TV for reasons I don’t understand.
